Members of Team NYVC Participated in the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic Stage Race last week. Teammates took part in four straight days of racing in the hills of northwest MA. The stages included a (mostly) uphill time trial, a tough Road race that ended at the peak of Wachusset mountain, an aggressive Circuit course, and a fast Crit Stage. The NYVC ladies really shined in the 3/4 field,. Our Teammates came back with the following highlights:
Stage 1- Time Trial
Corinne Karmiel and Heidi Reijm respectively placed 2nd and 4th in the Time Trial- NICE! (cat 4 women)
Stage 2- Road Race
Corinne and Heidi came in 1st and 10th out of the cat 4 women in the Road Race- a fantastic win for Corinne and a great result for Heidi! Mat Richards fought with a deep cat 4 field and came in 7th.
Stage 3 Circuit Race
The Circuit Race was a fun, fast, and slightly technical course with a sharp, short uphill finish and a few 90-degree crit turns thrown in. The NYVC ladies kept ripping into their field, with Corinne and Heidi coming in 2nd and 5th. Matt Richards Eked out an 11th place finish in the men's cat 4 race. CJIA managed to think about bacon and not get dropped after 3 days of racing.
Stage 4 Criterium
The Longsjo Classic ended with a fast, fun Criterium through the heart of downtown Fitchburg. the weather was great and the races were exciting and fast! Corrinne and Heidi took and 12th and 6th in the Criterium and heidi also took one of the sprint primes with 3 laps to go- does it ever end with these ladies?? CJ and Matt were able to work a little "shake and bake," racing aggressively and leading Matt out to take 3rd in two of the sprint primes.
GC
At the end of the day the Ladies really did NYVC proud, With Corinne placing 2nd and Heidi taking 5th in the GC for the Cat 4 women. GREAT JOB LADIES!
The next big stage race for the team is GMSR- who will bring home the bacon?
